A big project...
1/72" Zvezda's "Royal Castle" I have worked on this one, off and on for over 20 months! The Royal castle shown here includes most of Zvezda's optional parts, like tower and bridge extensions. 36 people and 18 horses and 24 sheep are Italiari and Valdemar museum quality miniatures.
The base is plywood and plaster of Paris, wire, paper mache, and other materials. The paint for the Castle is all latex, interior / exterior. Water in the moat is 500 to 1 varnish.
I hope you like my pictures of this work and someday use it in your, Model Gallery. I think the gallery is an important feature to your web site as it provides modelers with a great outlet to display their work. Thanks Again!

I just finished this model of Alpha Centuri Short Range UFO's (1/32" by Pegasus) caught in the act of abducting a cow!

I used Dupli-Color car body paint with clear "glitter" effect over all painted surfaces on the UFO's Testors Glue and the base is Pine with "Life Like" grass and lichen! The after market decal set was also used.

Atlantis Model Co. Unveils Giant Tyrannosaurus Rex Plastic Model Kit, First of "Prehistoric Scenes™ - The Classic Series" Lineup.

Towering T-Rex will use Prehistoric Scenes™ series name - first time in 35 years!

LONG ISLAND, NY, February 7, 2011 – Atlantis Model Company, manufacturer of classic plastic hobby kits, unleashes its gigantic Tyrannosaurus Rex kit this year. The kit is notable for its tremendous size - over 18" tall and 35" long when assembled - but even more so in that it will bear the original "Prehistoric Scenes™" trademark, not seen on a plastic hobby kit since 1975. The kit and the series name were originally introduced by the Aurora Plastics Corporation, a company that was the leader in plastic hobby kits in the 1960's and 1970's. The company was dissolved in 1977. Atlantis Model Co., having gained access to the original molds for the T-Rex kit, is reissuing the prehistoric titan in its original red-orange color and snap-together assembly presentation.

"We knew we wanted to make a big impression with this big kit," says Peter Vetri, president and co-founder of Atlantis Model Co. "While we are thrilled to utilize the original tooling for the long-lost Aurora kit, we still felt as if something was missing."

Vetri contacted the Dencomm company, present owner of the Prehistoric Scenes trademark, to see if the monster and the mark could be reunited. Although Dencomm has plans underway to take the original series forward beyond what Aurora had achieved, the two companies reached agreement to establish "Prehistoric Scenes - The Classic Series" for Atlantis' use.

"We're glad to see Atlantis is interested in the classic kits of the original series," says Dencomm president Dennis L. Prince, "and it made perfect sense that their new T-Rex kit should bear the original trademark. It's something that kit enthusiasts and collectors have been asking of us for several years. Thanks to Atlantis, that demand will be met."

Does this mean that there will be more classic Prehistoric Scenes kits coming from Atlantis?

"We're definitely considering more classic Prehistoric Scenes kits," confides Vetri, "but we need to take care of the T-Rex first. If it sells well and folks respond to the Prehistoric Scenes name, that would help us move forward with more classic kits."

These photos depict the U.S.S. Missouri as she appeared in Tokyo Bay on September 2nd 1945 during the Japanese surrender to end WW11. This is a scene that I always wanted to recreate, so after planning this in my head for about 3 months I purchase the Tamiya 1-350 Missouri kit, and also purchased the Gold Medal Models photo etching parts for this kit. I did extensive research on the scene using various books on the U.S.S. Missouri to gather as many photographs as possible to use as my reference guide. The entire project took me about 3 months to complete working on it almost every day for anywhere between one and four hours at a time.

The first thing I did when building the diorama is to cut the hull to convert the kit to a waterline model. This was done with a jig saw. Once the hull was cut I began building the model usually painting the various parts and sections before the final assembly. All paints that I used were Tamiya paints, and every piece including the hull were hand painted. Knowing that my goal was to recreate an exact scene in history motivated me to make the model as accurate as possible. This included building two temporary wood scaffolds that were erected by the crew of the Missouri shortly before the surrender ceremony to create an area adjacent to the actual signing area for dignitaries to stand to witness the signing. These two scaffolds I built out of cardboard, and can be seen next to the quarterdeck painted wood color with many man standing on them witnessing the signing of the surrender. The boats that are tied up to the Missouri all are in the same scale, and I had these parts lying around from various kits that I have built over the years so it worked out well that I was able to use them. The base was made out of ¾” plywood that was cut to fit the size of the glass fish tank that I used to enclose the model. I just turn the fish tank upside down, and place it over the model protecting it from dust, pets , and children. The model was built between February, and April 2005, and has been totally protected by the tank since then. The water was done using joint compound on the surface of the plywood tracing out the shape of the cut hull of the model. Once the joint compound dried I painted the water using Tamiya Flat Blue XF-8. The most detailed part of the building process was putting the men on the model. I used approximately 800 1-350 figures that are painted kaki color for officers, and white for sailors. The Japanese contingent that is signing the surrender are painted in black, and green [army]. The men were glued to the deck using Zap glue with a pair of tweezers. I tried to place the figures in the exact places that they were in based on the photos of the event.

Overall this is my most impressive model. It is displayed in the center foyer in my house, so when you enter the front door it is right there. This diorama has stopped many people in their tracks when they enter my house, and quite frankly there are many times that I stop to look at it and admire it myself. I was able to recreate one of the most significant events in WW11, by using a simple kit, along with photo etching detailing, and some ingenuity along with the necessary research.

Guy Malone's 1-350 USS Lexington by Trumpeter

This diorama depicts the U.S.S. Lexington CV 2 right before she was sunk at the Battle of Coral Sea in May 1942. It is the Trumpeter 1-350 scale kit, that I built as a waterline model. One good thing about the Trumpeter kits is that if you want to build a waterline model you don’t have to cut the hull, as it allows you to build it either as a waterline, or full hull model. This scene was built using photos and a book I have on the Lexington during the battle of Coral Sea. I purchase additional aircraft that trumpeter sells to add to the aircraft that come with the kit. All the aircraft on the model were the same planes that were actually on the ship at the time of the battle. To add additional detail to the model I purchased photoecthing parts and scale figures from Gold Medal Models to accurately recreate the scene of the battle. All painting including the water was done by hand, and all paints used were Tamiya paints.

The base was made from ¾” plywood that was cut to fit the size of a 30 gallon fish tank that is placed over the model upside down. The water was made using joint compound that is applied to the wood base leaving a spot in the center with no compound where the hull will sit. The completed model was glued to the wood base, and then cotton was used to simulate the wake of the ship, and the water rushing along the hull. The smoke from the stack is also made from cotton. If you look closely at the flight deck you will see much activity going on as the launch crews are working to launch the planes, and in fact the first plane is in the process of taking off. All in all this is a wonderful kit to build, and with a little research and additional detailing photoecthing parts it can become a beautiful display model of the “ Lady Lex”.

The review section is for the products only not the service you received from Megahobby. We are really trying to increase this information on the website.

Also check us out on You Tube we will be adding inside the the box first looks on many kits. The Mr. Spock Collectors Tin "Round2 Models" is the first one we have it is rough but they will get better that is me doing the narration. You can also listen to our CBS radio commercial we aired in 2005, I just added some pictures to make it interesting. I will try to get some more first looks up this week.

What do you guys think we should call it First looks? Inside the box? Between the Sprues? Any suggestions or thoughts on how we can make you tube better and more informative for you please let us know. You can post your opinions on this blog!
